What Happened

Wellington R1212 of 304 (Silesian) Squadron departed RAF Syerston on the night of 15 April 1941. The aircraft crashed at Bleasby, Nottinghamshire, killing three of the Polish crew on board. The remaining crew members, including Janusz Trzebski, survived. The circumstances of the crash reflect the hazards faced nightly by Polish airmen flying with the RAF — engine failure, poor weather, and the absence of navigational aids could turn a return flight fatal. The three who died were among the many Polish aviators who had continued the fight from British soil following the fall of their homeland. *Note: The raw text provided describes the crew and crash details of Wellington R1002, not R1212. The facts clearly attributable to R1212 in the supplied data are limited to the date, location, squadron, station, and crew summary. A fuller narrative cannot responsibly be constructed without source material specific to this aircraft.*
