What Happened

Whilst flying at 1800ft, the aircraft suffered an in-flight engine fire. The aircraft dived and banked before it crashed at Park Farm, Kettlethorpe at 1738. Five of the crew were killed, three were injured.

War Memorials Online registers the Laughterton Trentside Memorial which commemorates Lancaster LM292 (coded PM-K) of 103 Squadron on the reverse side of the same cairn as the Stirling EH940 memorial. LM292 departed Elsham Wolds at 21:18 for operations over Fontenay on 8 August 1944. On the homeward leg, an engine caught fire and the aircraft became uncontrollable.
