DV930, Tx-o, 11 Operational Training Unit, Steeple Morden on the Night of 10th-11th September 1942 the Above Aircraft Took Off from Steeple Morden at 21.05 Hours and Crashed in Flames into the Stack Yard of Herne Hill Farm, Chediston at 23.45 Hours, After Returning from a Raid on Dusseldorf in Germany. On the night of September 10-11, 1942, a Vickers Wellington Mk. IC, registration DV930, belonging to the 11 Operational Training Unit at Steeple Morden, took off from its base at 21:05 hours. Tragically, it crashed in flames into the yard of Herne Hill Farm, Chediston, at 23:45 hours, following a raid on Düsseldorf, Germany. The aircraft carried a crew of five, all of whom perished in this tragic event. This memorial stands as a tribute to their bravery and sacrifice.
