What Happened

Wellington HE818 was on a training sortie from RAF Worksop with 18 Operational Training Unit when it came down at Blyth Green, Nottinghamshire, on 7 March 1944. The crew were airmen still working toward front-line qualification when the aircraft was lost. Four men were killed in the crash, among them Pilot Officer Frank Reginald Bedford. The specific cause of the accident has not been confirmed in the records available to this memorial.
